After finishing the big letters with our team and taking pictures of them, we had a tour with our class of all the other words that other groups did and placed in different locations on campus so that was pretty interesting because I thought some people got really creative for their word like for the word CONTRAST or CAPTURE for example.
We started directly talking about the next final project which concerned building a lamp shade, so we had to buy Bristol paper and make 9 different ones with that paper for Tuesday's (11/30/10) class .
I gotta say though that bristol paper is a BIG pain... s hard to fold... not to mention pierce...

My 9 final refined black&white and color word designs mounted on black matboard
It took me a really long time and hard work to cut all these matboards to shape 10x10 inch squares all by myself, and so that is why they might look slightly imperfect but at least I tried my best so those little things don't matter. They look pretty good overall. And I'm happy and proud of my work. Staying late in the art building cutting the 9 boards over and over again, measuring and tracing 9 times a square in the center of each matboard, having to deal with the annoying studiotack and spending almost an hour trying to carefully stick the 9 images perfectly in the center of each matboard....was worth it.

Working on placing ELIMINATE
So Friday we all met up in the classroom, grabbed our letters and head out to find places where we could place our words, that would fit with the word's definition.
Here are pictures that we took of our word in different locations:
We chose to place our word in a locker place and stuff the last letter E in one of the locker as if we wanted to eliminate it.
We also thought it would be very representative of our word if we placed it on the stair steps and photographed it behind the bars of the staircase as if the word was crossed out, eliminated.
The dumpster was an original place we thought of too to place the word so it would show that we literally wanted to eliminate it by placing it with the trash.

Sometimes we shot the picture from above and sometimes from a low point of view but sometimes too we shot it from a normal angle (like the letter's height), depending on where we placed it to emphasize on the effect we were trying to create of the word.

Let's get to work people!
Today we spent the whole class stating the building process for our 3 feet tall words.
First, we bought the HUGE cardboard, then we started tracing a grid on it and then traced the words on it scaled from the smaller words in size, and then we should have started cutting the shapes out but we didn't really get to finish that part, so we should have it done by next class, then we should continue the 3d part of the construction.
Here are some of the pictures that I took from my camera of my team working during the process so I didn't get to be in the pictures except the 2 last ones that Megan took while I was working.
I also got some other advice on my refined refined refined words ;P

Starting the prototype building and revisions for more refinements of the words...
We looked at our refined designs of our word and were told that we had to do even more refinements, so here are my refined 9 words:
And their refinements:
First, we typed out the word in the Futura font that we liked best, then we printed it 3 inches tall and used that to trace out the shape of the letters on the cardboard so we could cut them out and make our mini-models of the actual 3 feet tall thing.
And their refinements:
After finishing with these, we were working on our word "ELIMINATE"'s prototype building.

Refining & starting a new project
After finishing up all of our 18 designs (original 3 black&white and 5 color variations for each), and had a quick critique of them in class (today) , we had to have 9 of them refined (the original 3 black&white and 2 of the color variations for each that we thought were "best").
After a lot of hesitation and advice, I chose the ones I was going to refine, so we have to have those done by next class (Thursday 10/4/10).
At the same time, we were put into groups, and each group was (randomly) assigned a word to build a put into a specific location linked to its meaning.
I was put in a group with Megan, Jeff, Nathan and Duan Qi.
The word assigned to us was "Eliminate".
So we have to find at least 5 locations possible for our word and take pictures of them.
Here are some of the locations I took pictures of that could be used to place our word "ELIMINATE" in.
And this is a little simulation of how I thought we could place our word in these places:
